On Juneteenth 2024, the Honor Flight Network organized its first-ever flight dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of 26 Black veterans. This special group embarked on an all-expenses-paid journey from Atlanta to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials and pay tribute to their invaluable contributions. This date is significant as it marked the end of slavery in the former Confederate states, though it would take the ratification of the 13th Amendment to end slavery nationwide.
The Honor Flight Network's initiative to bring 26 Black veterans to Washington, D.C., is a powerful way to shine a light on the often-untold stories of Black service members.
